Do you read a lot or a little, or would you like to use one of our library services? There is always a subscription that suits you. Enjoy the latest bestsellers or comics, inspiring hobby books or in-depth studies. With many subscriptions, you also have access to tens of thousands of e-books and online magazines, newspapers and audiobooks.
Becoming a member always offers advantages and is available from as little as £0 per year! ... and from 1 January 2026, we will be fine-free! Of course, we would like our books to be returned on time. But if you are a few days late, you will no longer have to pay a fine.
There are various options, depending on your age and reading habits. Take a look at the terms and conditions and choose a membership that suits you. You can easily register via this website. After paying online, your library card will be sent to your home within a few days.

Would you like to get acquainted with our collections before taking out a membership? Or would you only like to use the services of Maastricht Library for a shorter period? Then take out a four-month Season Membership.

At our service desk, you can purchase a beautifully packaged gift voucher for a membership of your choice.
On a tight budget?
Do you enjoy reading, but your income is too low to pay for a membership? Then the Adult Sports & Culture Fund may be able to help you. This fund pays the membership fee for the Royal.
BASIS / BASIC
Free*
The most economical choice for those who do not borrow frequently or in large quantities.
- Borrow a maximum of two items at a time; no renewals.
- Loan fee: €2.00 per item for four weeks, then €0.10 per day.
- One hour of free computer use per day.
- €2.00 per item and €2.00 per renewal (also for materials borrowed from the archives).
- Access to copying/printing facilities.
*€3.00 registration fee
JONG / YOUTH
Free
For all children and young people aged 0 to 27!
You can be a member of the library for free until you turn 28.
- Borrow for free and no fines.
- Borrow up to 10 items at a time, for 4 weeks.
- Up to the age of 17, you can also borrow 10 e-books, 10 audiobooks and 5 online magazines at a time from the youth collection of Onlinebibliotheek.nl* free of charge.
- Unlimited free use of a computer workstation.
