Dick Bruna’s picture books come to life this summer in Maastricht.

The “miffy on holiday” family exhibition in Centre Céramique has been especially created for those who grew up with the bunny character and want to rediscover the joy she brought throughout their childhood. The ‘miffy on holiday” exhibition is also for today’s toddlers and preschoolers who want to share in the miffy experience.

Children can discover miffy’s house, crawl in her plane, play with the animals and dream away in her tent. The “miffy on holiday” exhibition is one big party!

Known all over the world, whether as “nijntje” in Dutch, “miffy” in English and in French or “ミッフィー” in Japanese, Dick Bruna’s iconic white bunny is packing her bags and heading to Maastricht to holiday with her friends. For millions people all over the world – both young and old - can now discover her world in this playful and adventurous exhibition.

Not just miffy

Dick Bruna (1927-2017) is one of the most famous Dutch illustrators in the world. We know him as the father of miffy and the designer of book jackets for thousands of crime novels and literary thrillers within the range known as “Zwarte Beertjes”.

However, had it been up to Dick’s father, he would have become a publisher in the family business A.W. Bruna & Zoon. How did Dick Bruna realise his dream to become an illustrator instead? How did miffy come about? How did she become a worldwide phenomenon and who and what were Dick’s artistic influences? Which techniques did he use? What role did the Zwarte Beertjes play in his oeuvre? What are the hallmarks of Dick Bruna’s style? All these questions and more are answered in this exhibition.

In addition to the exhibition, there are fun workshops for everyone from toddlers to pre-schoolers and from high school students to adults.
