Alain Laboile-La famille

  English version below

1 December 2015 - 20 March 2016 / Alain Laboile-La famille

Centre Céramique proudly announces this photo exhibition. The black-and-white photographs of Alain Laboile (Bordeaux, 1968) fascinate immensely. They are timeless, universal and recognizable. The photographs of his children and an idyllic life outdoors revoke melancholy and longing. Melancholy about hot summers and endless days being outdoors. We see a world we rarely encounter nowadays. Laboile's children are playing in the river behind the house, in the self-built bamboo forest, with old car tires, with frogs, the many cats and even a fawn. They climb on their father’s sculptures, make campfires and swim in the self-dug pool.
Alain Laboile is a sculptor and since 2004, when he needed a portfolio of his sculptures, also a self-taught photographer. At first, he became fascinated with macro photography, especially of insects. Soon, however, he focused his lens on his extending family. It became his main subject. Laboile and his wife now have six children. Growing up in the countryside, forty kilometers south of Bordeaux "at the edge of the world" as Laboile calls it, is enchantingly captured in black and white photos.
The exhibition in Maastricht is the first major exhibition of Laboile in Europe.
Never before were so many of Laboile’s creations on display in a single exhibition. He recently had smaller exhibitions in Tokyo, Mexico and California. On the Internet, with thousands of followers, he is a sensation and the very prestigious Musée Français de la Photographie bought quite a few photographs of Alain Laboile.
